Komatsu Camshaft

The Komatsu camshaft, or simply the camshaft in the gas distribution mechanism, ensures the performance of the main function - the timely opening and closing of the valves, which supply fresh air and release exhaust gases. In general, the camshaft controls the gas exchange process in the engine.

Komatsu camshaft In order to reduce inertial loads and increase the rigidity of the gas distribution mechanism elements, the camshaft should be as close to the valves as possible. Therefore, the standard position of the camshaft on modern engines is in the cylinder head.

The basis of the camshaft design is the cam. Usually, one cam is used for each valve. The cam has a complex shape that ensures that the valve opens and closes at the set time and rises to a certain height. Depending on the design of the gas distribution mechanism, the cam interacts with a pusher or a rocker arm.

A thrust bearing located near the drive gear (sprocket) prevents the camshaft from moving longitudinally. The camshaft is lubricated under pressure. It is best to supply oil to each bearing separately. By using various variable valve timing systems, the efficiency of the gas distribution mechanism is significantly improved, which can increase power, fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust gas toxicity. There are several ways to change valve timing:

Rotating the camshaft in various operating modes;

Using multiple cams with different profiles per valve;

Changing the position of the rocker arm shaft.
