Komatsu oil pump
The Komatsu oil pump is designed to generate pressure in the lubrication system, thus ensuring lubrication of the moving parts of the internal combustion engine.
The Komatsu oil pump is driven by the Komatsu crankshaft or Komatsu camshaft through the transmission shaft.
According to the nature of control, the oil pump is divided into non-adjustable and adjustable types. Fixed pumps use a pressure reducing valve to maintain a constant pressure in the lubrication system. In variable pumps, constant pressure is maintained by changing the pump output. According to the design, it can be divided into gear oil pumps and rotary oil pumps.
The Komatsu gear oil pump consists of two gears - a driving gear and a driven gear, which are installed in the housing. The oil enters the pump through the suction port, is captured by the gears and pumped into the system through the discharge port. The performance of the gear pump is proportional to the crankshaft speed. When the pressure of the pumped oil exceeds a certain value, the pressure reducing valve is activated, releasing part of the oil into the suction chamber or directly into the engine crankcase.
The rotary oil pump consists of two rotors - an inner (driving) rotor and an outer (driven) rotor, which are placed in the housing. The oil is sucked into the pump, captured by the rotor blades and forced into the system. Just like a gear pump, the pressure relief valve is activated when necessary. This design features an unregulated rotary pump.
A more advanced design is the Komatsu rotary variable oil pump, which provides constant pressure throughout the entire crankshaft speed range.
How an adjustable rotary pump works
As the crankshaft speed of the Komatsu engine increases, the demand for oil increases and, correspondingly, the pressure in the system drops. When the pressure drops, the regulating spring moves the stator, which changes the position of the driven rotor. As a result, the volume of the suction chamber increases and the performance of the pump increases.
As the engine speed decreases, oil consumption decreases and the system pressure increases. Due to the increased pressure, the regulating spring is compressed, which moves the Komatsu stator and changes the position of the driven rotor. This causes the suction chamber volume to decrease and reduces the performance of the Komatsu pump.
